How to serve, by age
8–10 mo
Soak until full, cook until mushy, then skin and press into an unsweetened paste; stir into congee or rice cereal.
1 yr+
Sweet-bean fillings in soft pastries, with sugar kept in check.
Choking risk: High
Whole dried beans are round, hard and slick, and stay chewy even after cooking. Skinned and mashed is the required early form.
If choking ever happens: act immediately — call emergency services (911 in the US) and seek emergency care. Do not wait.
Allergens
Adzuki Beans is not among the eight most common food allergens (milk, egg, peanut, tree nuts, soy, wheat, fish, shellfish). Any food can cause a reaction in principle — introduce new foods one at a time, during the day, and watch your baby.
Common questions
- Same rules for mung, kidney and black beans?
- Yes — all dried beans follow one principle: cooked to mush, skinned, mashed. No whole beans for young eaters.
Practical tips
- Soak beans overnight; cooking time drops by half.
- Freeze bean paste in ice-cube trays and grab a cube as needed.
